On March 10, a solo miner mined block #887,212 on the first cryptocurrency network using a home setup, Bitax, with a hash rate of 480 GH/s. Their reward was 3.15 BTC, or ~$250,000.

According to CKPool administrator Kon Kolivas, the probability of mining a block with such a power setup is one in a million, and on average, it would take 3500 years of operation to achieve it.

The user employed six Bitax devices from D-Central Technologies with a combined hash rate of ~3.3 TH/s. The “winning” device was one of the Ultra models, which uses an ASIC chip for Antminer S19XP by Bitmain.

More modern and powerful versions — Bitax Gamma and Supra — are built on the chip designed for the Antminer S21 of the latest generation.

According to the equipment vendor Altair, the cost of these devices in the U.S. ranges from $169 to $299.

Kolivas pointed out that connecting multiple miners increases the chances of success. In his opinion, the overall computational power is the key factor in this case.

To date, users of CKPool have mined a total of 297 solo Bitcoin blocks, emphasized Kolivas.

It’s worth noting that this was first achieved with the Bitax device in July 2024.
