
Attack on an account with four million subscribers
On Wednesday, the official blockchain network account was hacked BNB Chain in the social network X (former Twitter), followed by almost four million users. Hackers used the page for publication phishing linkstargeting crypto wallets.
Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng (CZ) confirmed the incident and called on the community do not go through malicious posts.
According to him, the attackers distributed sites requesting connection through Wallet Connect.

The hacker posted a bunch of links to phishing websites that ask for Wallet Connect.

The CH noted that the BNB Chain security teams had already notified the X administration and were working on suspending the activity of the hacked account. Fraud domain blocking applications were also filed.
A spokesman for BNB Chain reported that the team was investigating a method of compromise. Work is underway together with security partners, the details are promised to be disclosed later.
Phishing links under the guise of Wallet Connect
According to the chief security specialist of the company slowmistknown in X under the nickname 23pds, the attackers applied the classic trick – they replaced one letter in the domain to make it look as plausible as possible.
“The official English-language BNB Chain account in X is hacked! On the phishing site letter I replaced by L”, the expert wrote, warning users about the fraudulent scheme.

According to the specialist, the infamous group may be behind the attack Inferno Drainer – a service for creating phishing sites and theft of funds from crypto wallets, which appeared in 2022 and became famous in 2023.
CZ: check domains even with ‘official’ accounts
In his appeal, Zhao Changpeng advised users to always carefully check domains, even if the links are published from official or verified accounts.
“Always check the website addresses carefully, even if they come from X official accounts. Stay safe (SaFu)!” he wrote.
By 8:26 UTC, BNB Chain announced that they had managed to regain control of the account.
According to the project, the total 10 phishing links, which is why users lost about $8,000 on different blockchains. BNB Chain representatives assured that all victims will be fully compensated.
