Around 40% of users are convinced that Bitcoin’s creator is Len Sassaman, despite his wife, Meredith Patterson, having previously denied these rumors. The crypto community continues to discuss his potential role ahead of the upcoming HBO documentary “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery”, which promises to unveil the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

It's a very well-researched and respectful article, but to the best of my knowledge, Len was not Satoshi. Worth reading for the history and the conclusions about mental health, though. https://t.co/am4EG57YvC

Who is Len Sassaman?
Len Sassaman was a programmer and cryptographer associated with the cypherpunk movement. At 18, he joined the TCP/IP support team, a key internet protocol, and later founded a cryptography startup focused on public key encryption. His work with cryptographer Hal Finney on the Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) project also played a significant role in his career.
“It’s a good research piece and a respected article. But as far as I know, Len was not Satoshi. It’s worth reading for the history and the information on his mental health,” commented Meredith Patterson on a post by Hatch, the author who speculated Sassaman might be Nakamoto.
Documentary and Conspiracy Theory
On October 9, HBO is set to release a documentary that promises to reveal the identity of Bitcoin’s anonymous creator. The film’s director, Cullen Hoback, previously exposed the popular QAnon conspiracy theory in Q: Into the Storm.
“In the film, we present damn convincing arguments, and I think the person we settle on will cause surprise and no small amount of debate,” said Hoback.
Alex Thorn of Galaxy Digital noted that they may name Len Sassaman as the creator of Bitcoin.
Sassaman’s Legacy
In 2011, Sassaman took his own life, which further fueled the belief that he could have been Satoshi Nakamoto. In Bitcoin block #138725, a tribute to him was included, with a memorial inscription calling him a “friend, brilliant mind, and devious schemer.”
Additionally, on Polymarket, a decentralized prediction platform, around 40% of participants are betting on Sassaman as the creator of Bitcoin.
Reactions to the Documentary
Whoever is named in the film, the community is bracing for the inevitable debates surrounding the decision.
“We had far more evidence than we were able to include in the film,” added director Hoback.
Reminder:
Court-recognized “false Satoshi” Craig Wright has once again made headlines by opening a new account on X, where, by court order, he was forced to publish a statement declaring that he is not Satoshi Nakamoto.
