Amrita Srivastava, who worked at Binance Holdings from 2022 to 2023, has filed a lawsuit against the company’s UK division, alleging bribery and unfair dismissal. The case was reported by Bloomberg.
According to court documents, Srivastava became aware of a colleague accepting bribes from a client under the guise of providing “consulting services.” The individual in question has since left the firm.
Srivastava reported the issue to senior management but was dismissed a month later.
She described her experience at Binance as “chaotic,” citing “pressure to close deals.”
The lawsuit also claims Binance sought to address a “revenue gap” after discovering that approximately a quarter of its income from a division came from a client linked to Iran.
Court filings indicate that Binance’s leadership was already aware of the bribery incident. The company reportedly had a culture of regularly dismissing unethical employees.
“The decision to terminate her employment for poor performance was made before Ms. Srivastava raised concerns about a matter that was already […] under the internal audit group’s review,” a Binance representative responded.
In the UK, claimants alleging unfair dismissal can receive compensation of up to £105,700 (~$134,150). However, whistleblowers face no legal cap on compensation, according to official guidelines.
Context:
In November, lawyers representing Binance and its former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) requested the dismissal of an updated SEC lawsuit against the platform.
Earlier, in August, a federal court in Seattle received a complaint against Binance and CZ, alleging the company failed to prevent money laundering, which resulted in three crypto investors losing access to stolen assets.
