Anthropic has followed in the footsteps of Meta by opening its artificial intelligence technologies to U.S. intelligence and defense agencies. This was made possible through a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Palantir, as stated in an official announcement.

Through this collaboration, the U.S. government will gain access to the Claude 3 and 3.5 large language model families on the AWS platform.

“This partnership will create an integrated technology suite enabling the operational use of Claude within Palantir’s AI platform, leveraging the security, flexibility, and resilience provided by AWS,” Palantir stated.

U.S. defense and intelligence agencies will utilize these tools to enable “secure use of AI models in critical missions,” according to Palantir’s Chief Technology Officer, Shyam Sankar.

Potential Applications of the Technology:

  • Rapid processing of large volumes of complex data
  • Enhanced analytical insights
  • Efficient pattern and trend detection
  • Optimization of document review and preparation
  • Assisting U.S. officials in making well-informed decisions in urgent scenarios

Palantir Technologies is a U.S.-based company specializing in data analysis software development.

Previously, institutions affiliated with the People’s Liberation Army of China reportedly used Meta’s publicly available AI models to develop tools with potential military applications.

In June 2023, China also introduced an AI-powered commander for military simulations.
