ChatGPT Initiates Conversation with Users Based on Previous Interactions

Chatbot ChatGPT has learned to initiate conversations based on previous interactions with users, according to a Reddit user SentuBill.

CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, has planned to restructure the company’s framework to attract funds at a valuation of $150 billion.

In a recent case, ChatGPT initiated a conversation by inferring that it was the user’s first day at school and asking how it went. This new feature became available after an update allowing the chatbot to track and analyze previous dialogues.

The update was initially misunderstood, as ChatGPT seemed to start conversations autonomously. However, it was later clarified that this was due to a bug. According to Futurism, citing OpenAI representatives, the issue arose when the model tried to respond to a message that was not sent properly, resulting in either a generic response or the use of the bot’s memory.

“We fixed the issue that caused it to seem like ChatGPT was starting new conversations. The bug happened when the model attempted to respond to a message that wasn’t sent properly, which led to either a generic response or using the chatbot’s memory,” the developers said.

OpenAI also introduced a new large language model, o1, trained using reinforcement learning to perform complex reasoning. The company claims that the model can “think,” generating long internal chains of thought during analysis.

OpenAI to Change its Non-Profit Structure

To support and develop AI models, OpenAI is negotiating to raise $6.5 billion at a $150 billion valuation. Without investments, the startup risks facing financial difficulties due to the high cost of training neural networks.

In light of the desire to raise funds, CEO Sam Altman informed employees that the complex corporate structure of the startup would likely be altered next year. Fortune reported this, citing sources.

“The shift away from non-profit control will make OpenAI a more traditional company,” the journal wrote.

In June, it was revealed that the company was considering transforming its governance structure into a commercial business model.

According to Reuters, the new funding round will be conducted through convertible bonds, with the $150 billion valuation dependent on the ability to restructure the company and remove profit restrictions for investors. This decision will require approval from the non-profit board, which includes Altman and eight other members.

The funding round could close within the next two weeks, though if restructuring fails, OpenAI may have to revise its company valuation.

The company has been in discussions with lawyers regarding the conversion from a non-profit structure to a commercial corporation, similar to competitors such as Anthropic and xAI.

“If the restructuring fails, OpenAI will have to reassess its company valuation,” noted Reuters.

In August, Elon Musk filed a renewed lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman had violated the company’s founding agreement by prioritizing commercial interests over the public good.
