The founder of Tron, Justin Sun, has been elected prime minister of Liberland — a self-proclaimed micronation located on the border between Croatia and Serbia. Founded in 2015, Liberland is known for its libertarian philosophy and its use of Bitcoin as the official currency.
“The electoral process, governed by a simple set of rules, was entirely algorithmic to ensure transparency,” reads the official Liberland website.
New members of Congress include entrepreneur Evan Luthra and journalist Gillian Godsil.
Despite the news of his new position, there has been no mention of the appointment on Sun’s X (formerly Twitter) account.
Liberland’s History
Liberland was founded by Czech citizen Vít Jedlička as an experimental country with the motto “Live and Let Live.” The republic, covering about six square kilometers, claims to be a “free state,” though it is not internationally recognized.
Digital Gold and Sun’s Political Role
In 2021, Sun stepped down from his position as head of TRON Foundation to become Grenada’s representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO), a post he left in 2023.
According to Arkham, Sun’s assets, including TRON and Bitcoin, are valued at over $1 billion.
The Future of Liberland
The country continues to develop as a symbol of free enterprise and digital currencies, actively supporting decentralized governance and innovative technologies.
