The bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange Mt.Gox has transferred approximately 500 BTC (around $35 million) to an unidentified address, according to blockchain analytics platform Arkham.
Historical Context and Recent Transactions
This is the first significant transfer from Mt.Gox since May, when the exchange began moving its reserves for the first time in five years. At that time, Mt.Gox held 137,892 BTC valued at $9.35 billion. In July, the exchange’s trustee initiated user compensation through licensed platforms such as Kraken and Bitstamp, both of which reported the distribution of assets by the end of the month.
On September 24, Kraken returned 127.6 BTC ($8.07 million) to a Mt.Gox address. The last significant movement occurred on August 20, when 13,265 BTC ($784 million) were transferred to an unmarked address, which analysts at Arkham interpreted as internal fund reallocation within Mt.Gox’s storage.
Currently, the total balance across Mt.Gox wallets is 44,905 BTC, valued at approximately $3.12 billion.
Compensation Updates
Mt.Gox had previously announced that the final deadline for user compensation payments has been postponed to October 31, 2025.
