An unknown user fell victim to a phishing attack, signing a fraudulent transaction and losing 12,083 wETH, equivalent to $32.4 million. Phishing attacks continue to pose a significant threat to cryptocurrency users, deceiving them into signing malicious transactions.
How It Happened
During the attack, the perpetrators used a phishing link that mimicked a legitimate service to trick the user into approving a suspicious transaction. Once the victim signed the transaction, the funds were instantly transferred to the attackers’ address.
How to Protect Your Assets
Experts strongly advise users to be cautious and verify links and sources before making any transactions. Using hardware wallets and enabling multi-factor authentication also helps reduce the risks of such attacks.
