U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump treated Bitcoin supporters to burgers at the Bitcoin-themed PubKey bar in New York, paying with Bitcoin.
According to the bar’s co-founder Drew Armstrong, Trump paid $998.7 for several dozen burgers. He used the Strike payment app, built on the Lightning Network, to make the payment. The bar utilized the Zaprite service to accept payments.
“Former president, potential future president, this is real maturation for the Bitcoin community,” commented the other co-founder of PubKey, Thomas Packia.
He added that it was the first time Trump had used Bitcoin to purchase goods or services. Afterward, Trump distributed the burgers to the bar’s patrons.
PubKey is a Bitcoin-themed bar located in Greenwich Village in New York. It hosts meetups and other events for crypto enthusiasts.
The former U.S. president aims to gain the support of cryptocurrency users in the upcoming elections. In July, he spoke at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, promising to fire SEC Chairman Gary Gensler and create a strategic Bitcoin reserve.
It’s worth recalling that in September, the Trump family officially presented their cryptocurrency project World Liberty Financial and announced an upcoming WLFI token sale.
