The Russian energy company group “Rosseti” reported losses exceeding 1.3 billion rubles due to illegal mining in 2024.
The losses were recorded in regional companies:
- “Rosseti North Caucasus” — over 600 million rubles;
- “Rosseti Novosibirsk” — 400 million rubles;
- “Rosseti Center and Volga” — 120 million rubles.
The largest case was recorded in Novosibirsk, where the owner of an illegal mining farm connected over 3,200 mining rigs. The damage is estimated at 197 million rubles.
The company stated that unauthorized mining causes power grid overloads and voltage drops, leading to the failure of household and industrial equipment.
Throughout the year, experts prevented 130 illegal connections. Over 40 cases were forwarded to law enforcement agencies. Offenders face criminal charges with real prison sentences.
Earlier, the damage from electricity theft for mining in Russia was estimated at 10 billion rubles annually.
It is worth noting that in February, the Dagestan police discovered an illegal mining farm and seized 378 devices.
