American mining company MARA has launched its second project in Finland, utilizing heat generated from cryptocurrency mining to provide heating for residential areas.
This holiday season, we’re excited to bring the gift of warmth to even more homes with the addition of our second district heating project warming a city of 67,000 residents with #Bitcoin mining. We now proudly provide heat to nearly 80,000 residents across Finland. ❄️🏠♨️ pic.twitter.com/s5Vvz0ps5v

“This holiday season, we are excited to bring warmth to even more homes by launching our second centralized heat supply project, which heats a city of 67,000 residents using Bitcoin mining,” the company announced.
In June, MARA reported the start of a pilot project in Satakunta, serving a population of 11,000. With the latest initiative, a total of 80,000 residents in Finland are now benefiting from heat generated by mining equipment.
A similar project in Finland was previously initiated by Hashlabs Mining.
Bitcoin miners are finding diverse ways to utilize the heat produced by their equipment. For example, a bathhouse in New York used it to maintain the temperature of a swimming pool, though customer reactions were mixed.
In the Norwegian town of Sortland, KryptoVault used thermal energy from cryptocurrency mining to dry wood and seaweed. Despite creating jobs, residents criticized the miners for the noise generated by the data center.
Notably, in Paraguay, a Bitcoin mining operation redirected heat from ASIC miners to dry mangoes.
