U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is considering the creation of a new role for an official responsible for artificial intelligence (AI) to oversee federal policies and the government’s use of AI technology. This was reported by Axios, citing insider sources.

U.S. presidents often appoint so-called “czars” to address high-priority issues like climate change or border security.

According to sources, DOGE chief Elon Musk is not slated to become the “AI czar,” but he will participate in discussions. Along with Vivek Ramaswamy, another potential leader of the initiative, Musk is expected to help select the most suitable candidate for the role.

Previously, it was revealed that Trump is also considering appointing the first-ever “crypto czar.” Axios noted that responsibilities for digital assets and artificial intelligence could potentially be combined under a single leadership.

“The new AI czar would focus federal and private resources to ensure that America remains a global leader in neural networks,” sources emphasized.

The AI czar would work with key federal officials to develop AI strategies and collaborate with DOGE to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse using AI tools.

The proposal has been under discussion for several months as Trump prepares for significant structural reforms in the White House. Axios highlighted that the position would not require Senate approval, allowing the czar to start work immediately.

Reminder: Trump is also exploring candidates for major government roles who are strong supporters of digital assets and artificial intelligence.
