Telegram Wallet Enables Fee-Free USDT Purchases

Users of the custodial Wallet mini-app in Telegram can now buy Tether’s USDT with zero fees, thanks to a partnership with the Mercuryo payment network and The Open Platform, an infrastructure provider for The Open Network (TON).

According to the team, this initiative aims to drive mass crypto adoption by offering the simplest way for newcomers to enter the space.

Tether integrated USDT support on the TON blockchain in April 2024, with its supply now exceeding $1.16 billion. Over the past year, around 4.5 million Wallet users have transacted with USDT.

In January, TON developers reported a 55x surge in new wallets, reaching 36.2 million in 2024, largely driven by USDT integration.

On January 21, Telegram and TON Foundation announced an exclusive agreement requiring all built-in Web3 apps to operate on TON, sparking concerns over the network’s monopoly within the ecosystem.
