Opera has launched the AI agent Browser Operator, which can perform various tasks on websites.
In a demonstration video, the digital assistant is shown searching for socks on Walmart, purchasing football match tickets on a club’s website, and booking a flight and hotel via Booking.
The tool will become available to users soon as part of the Feature Drop program. It remains unclear whether the agent can operate on all websites and handle more complex queries, such as finding the cheapest ticket from London to New York for tomorrow across different platforms.
Users can monitor Browser Operator’s actions and take manual control of the screen at any time. Opera claims that its agent is more secure than competitors, as it runs locally on the user’s device rather than relying on cloud-based servers or virtual machines.
AI agents are emerging as a new trend in the artificial intelligence industry. In January, OpenAI introduced its own “Operator”, capable of performing internet tasks on behalf of users.
Earlier, Anthropic released an updated version of its Claude 3.5 Sonnet model, which can interact with a computer like a human—moving the cursor, clicking buttons, and typing text.
